Movember is coming to an end at Intranet Connections, but together the ICGROMO Team has put up a great fight in raising awareness and fundraising for men’s health issues including prostate and testicular cancer. If you missed the Intranet Connections Movember Intro Blog, be sure to check it out to meet the team and discover what Movember is all about.
The last two featured team members of the Intranet Connections ICGROMO Team are our ‘Team Mascots’ so-to-speak, our Mo Dog Blue Lee and myself, our Mo Sista Karleen Murphy. While us two Movember advocates are unable to grow moustaches of our own, we have encouraged the Mo Bros of our team in their moustache growth, promoted awareness in other ways and worked to raise a significant amount of funding for the team in support of the funded programs of Movember.
Blue is one of the dogs that you’ll find wandering around the offices of Intranet Connections, in search of treats and friendly pats. He has been known to investigate garbage cans, although he insists it is only to ensure people are being hyper-vigilant about recycling. The left over scraps of food he finds are just a bonus!
Blue was born in Edmonton, and unfortunately does not have fond memories of his time there. He was found wandering the streets cold and alone after escaping from his previous owner, who had kept him tied to a post 24/7 and never bothered to change his collar from when he was a puppy, so when he was found the collar was far too small and had grown into his neck. In addition to the ingrown collar, Blue also had acid burns from a bark collar his owners had placed on him.
Blue went in for surgery and was all fixed up, but was placed into a shelter for several months and hopes of finding a loving home were dimming. It looked to be the end for Blue. Luckily, someone posted his beautiful mug on the internet and he was discovered by our Office Manager, Kyla Lee. Touched by his story Kyla transported Blue from Edmonton to Vancouver, where he now resides happily with his brother Jack and is a frequent visitor to the offices of Intranet Connections. He is warmly considered part of the IC family.
Blue doesn’t really understand cancer but he knows that it is no friend of his. As for his moustache, it is… a work in progress. He may be lacking a Mo but that isn’t stopping him from leading the pack in fundraising – blue has already raised over $1,400 alone! At Intranet Connections I work hard to foster our collaborative company culture, and can often be found planning fun and exciting office activities, posting jokes and ecards to our office intranet, promoting Foosball Fridays and arranging our office parties. I’m a frequent participant in Cancer awareness events such as Seek the Peak, the Vancouver Underwear Affair and Movember, so it was a no-brainer that we needed to rally the Intranet Connections Team to participate in Movember 2013.
Convincing 9 Intranet Connections Mo Bros to forgo shaving for an entire month wasn’t easy, but with a little bit of charm and a whole-lotta’ peer pressure the ICGROMO Team was born. What resulted was an amazing sense of comradery, spirit and some hilariously furry upper lips which all worked to support an amazing cause.
As the Marketing Assistant at Intranet Connections I have been promoting the efforts of the ICGROMO team on both our Intranet Connections social media channels as well as my own. My family and friends have been inundated with Movember moustache jewelry, Movember related tweets, facebook posts and frequent Movember jargon such as “how’s it growin’?”. Support my Movember campaign by donating to my Movember Page.
Last year the team raised just under $2,000 for Movember. This year ICGROMO has doubled that! Donate to the entire ICGROMO Team by visiting our Movember Page.
